Testosterone

1. What is Exogenous Testosterone?

Exogenous testosterone refers to synthetic testosterone administered to boost testosterone levels in the body. It is typically used for Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) to treat conditions like hypogonadism (low testosterone) or for bodybuilding and athletic performance enhancement.

Testosterone affects various body functions, including muscle growth, libido, energy levels, and mood.

Why Use Exogenous Testosterone?

  • Medical Reasons: Low testosterone levels causing fatigue, depression, muscle loss, and low libido.

  • Performance Enhancement: Increase muscle mass, strength, and recovery times.

  • Body Composition: Improve muscle-to-fat ratio.

2. Different Forms of Exogenous Testosterone

Various forms of testosterone are used depending on the goal, dosage frequency, and user tolerance. Here are the most common:

a) Testosterone Enanthate

  • Half-life: ~5-7 days

  • Administration: Usually injected every 1-2 weeks

  • Common Use: TRT, bodybuilding cycles

b) Testosterone Cypionate

  • Half-life: ~7-8 days

  • Administration: Injected every 1-2 weeks

  • Common Use: TRT, performance enhancement

c) Testosterone Propionate

  • Half-life: ~2-4 days

  • Administration: Injected every 2-3 days

  • Common Use: Shorter cycles or “kick-start” to longer-ester testosterone

d) Testosterone Suspension

  • Half-life: Very short, ~1 day or less

  • Administration: Typically daily or multiple times per week

  • Common Use: Often used by advanced users before events, but it's less common due to frequent injections.

e) Sustanon 250

  • Composition: Mixture of different testosterone esters

  • Administration: Injected every 1-3 weeks

  • Common Use: TRT and bodybuilding, favored for its blend of short and long esters.

3. How to Use Testosterone: Dosing Guidelines

Testosterone dosing is typically based on milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of body weight, but beginners are often advised to start at the lower end. Here's a breakdown by experience level. Remember, these are general guidelines; individual needs can vary widely.

a) Beginner Users (TRT or Light Cycles)

  • Dosage: 2-3 mg/kg of body weight per week

  • Frequency: Usually split into two doses to maintain steady blood levels.

  • Example: For a 70 kg person, 140-210 mg per week.

b) Intermediate Users (Performance or Muscle Gain)

  • Dosage: 4-5 mg/kg of body weight per week

  • Frequency: Injections can be every 3-5 days.

  • Example: For a 70 kg person, 280-350 mg per week.

c) Advanced Users (Bodybuilding or Competitive Levels)

  • Dosage: 6-8 mg/kg of body weight per week

  • Frequency: May inject every 2-3 days depending on the ester.

  • Example: For a 70 kg person, 420-560 mg per week.

4. Administration Tips and Precautions

  • Injection Sites: Glutes (most common), deltoids, and thighs.

  • Rotation of Sites: Prevents scar tissue and soreness.

  • Needle Size: Typically, 23-gauge for oil-based testosterone and 25-gauge for aqueous solutions.

  • Monitoring: Blood work before and during cycles is essential to monitor testosterone levels, liver health, cholesterol, and other markers.

5. Important Considerations

  • Cycle Length: Typically 8-12 weeks, followed by Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) to restore natural hormone levels.

  • PCT: Essential after exogenous testosterone use, as it helps normalize testosterone levels and minimize side effects. Common PCT drugs include Clomid and Nolvadex.

  • Possible Side Effects:

    • Acne, hair loss, gynecomastia (breast tissue development), liver strain, and increased risk of cardiovascular issues.

    • Suppression of natural testosterone production, which can lead to dependence on TRT.

6. Safety and Legalities

Using exogenous testosterone for athletic purposes may be illegal in certain regions and is often banned by sporting bodies. Consultation with a doctor is crucial for safe use, especially since long-term misuse can lead to serious health complications.
